Finding friendship, fitness, and success: Zainab Lottering – embracing life as an #NWUEagle
You will probably find fellow #NWUEagle, Zainab Lottering, on the run on the Potchefstroom Campus with her go-to meal: a pie and a muffin. Zainab is a second-year student studying BA Psychology with Labour Relations Management and making the most of her time at #MyNWU. She is from Kimberly and her personal mantra is a Walt Disney quote: “If you can dream it, you can do it.”
Zainab is motivated by accomplishing the goals she has set for herself this year and seeing herself flourishing in her fitness journey – a short-term goal of hers. Her decision to become an #NWUEagle was influenced by her siblings’ experience as NWU students.

“Two of my siblings studied at this university and as time passed, I’ve realised that the NWU is actually such a safe university with a happy and positive environment. The fact that it also offers high-quality academic programmes for students convinced me to become an #NWUEagle.”
This year she hopes to discover new friends and adventures. The one risk she does not regret is apologising for a huge mistake she made.
Her favourite memory from the R&O is dancing with Eagi the mascot and her favourite thing about the NWU is how convenient the system is, and everything is easy to access.
“Focus on what you came here for,” is her advice she would give to prospective students. “Be organised and make deadlines your priority.”
She says the one thing every student must have on their bucket list is to see themselves walking across the stage and seeing their hard work result in a degree. During her time at the NWU she has learned to discover herself beyond her degree.
The NWU event she looks forward to attending annually is the faculty dining event.
One of the challenges Zainab encountered as a student was transitioning to university life. “I’ve found it helpful to make friends with people in class, form study groups, and learn how to take effective notes.”
One of the rewarding experiences she is proud of is acquiring distinctions on specific modules.
What is on your bucket list for the rest of 2023?
