Taking Action Against Climate Change

Mandela Day, observed on July 18th each year, is a day dedicated to honouring Nelson Mandela’s legacy of making a positive impact on the world. The commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development at North-West University (NWU) aligns precisely with the values of Mandela Day. This year, we are taking significant measures to address climate change, one of the most pressing global issues of our time. We are raising awareness of climate change and empowering individuals to take action by leveraging its expertise and resources.

We recognise the imperative need to combat climate change and have begun a remarkable journey towards sustainability. Under its Green Initiative, the university has initiated several projects aimed at reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practises on its campuses and in its communities. Through research projects, conferences, and educational programmes, we intend to equip individuals with the knowledge and resources necessary to combat climate change.

Mandela Day presents an opportunity for North-West University to engage with the broader community and extend its sustainability efforts beyond the campus boundaries. By emphasising climate change awareness on Mandela Day, we hope to inspire individuals to make modest yet significant changes in their daily lives that contribute collectively to a more sustainable future.

We often organise events, webinars, and public lectures on climate change that emphasise the significance of individual actions. These initiatives aim to create a ripple effect, empowering individuals to implement sustainable practises and encouraging others to do the same.
