✨ Youth Month Special ✨ 5 Tips to be  better leader – NWU Student Leader Oyama Mgoduka 🌟

The theme for Youth Month 2023 is: “Accelerating collaborations and opportunities to improve the lives of the youth.

At the North-West University (NWU), our students have boundless opportunities to explore beyond what is expected of them. This gives them the chance to become the leaders their community needs, and the leadership skills they develop help them soar beyond their academic journey!

Join us in celebrating Youth Month by recognising the student leaders who are shaping the future of our university and the world.

Oyama Mgoduka, the Students’ Representative Council: Marketing and Public Relations Officer on the Mahikeng Campus, became a student leader because he believed that real-word experience is the best method to develop vital soft skills and his leadership abilities.

Education, Oyama believes, is critical to global development and the betterment of young people’s lives.

“The North-West University provides an opportunity to address the challenges that matter most to young people by offering programmes that focus on positive youth development, education, and training.  Through our student leadership programmes, students have the opportunity to participate in community development projects, volunteer work, and leadership training. These experiences help to build our self-confidence, resilience, and social skills, which are essential for success in both personal and professional settings. Students overcome the challenges they face and achieve their goals.”

To the #NWUEagles who are interested in becoming student leaders and making a difference he gives the following advice:

➢ Identify your passion: Think about the issues that you care about the most and how you can make a positive impact in those areas. ➢ Get involved: Join clubs and organizations that align with your interests and passions. This will give you

opportunities to meet like-minded individuals and develop your leadership skills.

➢ Attend leadership workshops: Our university offers workshops and training sessions for students who want to develop their leadership skills. Take advantage of these opportunities to learn new skills and strategies.

➢ Volunteer in your community: Look for opportunities to give back to your community and make a positive impact. This can help you develop your leadership skills and build your network.

➢ Be open to feedback: Seek feedback from your peers, mentors, and advisors. This will help you identify areas for improvement and to continue to grow as a leader.

Remember, being a student leader takes time, dedication, and hard work. But with the right mindset and support, you can make a positive impact in your community and beyond. Happy Youth Month, #NWUEagles!
