We’ll show you where to lay and learn!

As you probably already know, the North-West University’s annual open days are just around the corner. These events will present you with the opportunity to discover everything and more about the NWU.

As the saying goes, “home is where the heart is.”

We guarantee that you will find a special spot in your heart for the NWU in no time at all. For this reason, we will introduce you to a variety of accommodation options – both on and off campus – at the upcoming open days. We’d love to help you find the perfect home away from home.

The NWU Residence and Catering Services are responsible for the smooth operation of all the hostels on each NWU campus in Mahikeng, Potchefstroom, and Vanderbijlpark.

We also guarantee a safe, hygienic, and well-maintained living environment that promotes education and study. Campus residence will play a major part in your student life. Our students consider campus residences as the heart beat of student life. Your res will soon become “home;” it is a place where friendships are shaped and strengthened, and where cultural differences are both discovered and treasured.

Mafikeng Campus

The Mafikeng Campus offers 11 residences located on campus, housing about 3000 students in total. Each of these residences has internet access.

If you have any questions about the residences located on the Mafikeng Campus, contact Freedom Gwele on 018 389 2923 or at 23262559@nwu.ac.za.

Potchefstroom Campus

Various types of campus accommodation are available on the Potchefstroom Campus, including residences on campus, town residences, and private accommodation. Here, you will find 11 ladies’ residences and 9 men’s residences on campus, as well as a residence designated solely to senior students.

Are you confused about what the difference between town res and campus res? Well, students who live in rooms, apartments, garden flats, or in their parents’ homes instead of campus residences can still take part in organized student life. Simply join one of our “town residences”. A town res functions exactly the same as a campus res, and is organized in the same way as residences on campus.

We also take care of our rugby students by means of several accommodation options that are within walking distance from the Fanie du Toit sport terrain.

Contact Caro Bamberger for general queries relating to accommodation on the Potchefstroom Campus on 018 299 1188 or caro.bamberger@nwu.ac.za.

As we don’t necessarily have enough campus residences to house all students studying on the Potchefstroom Campus, several students move into private accommodation. To simplify the house hunt, this campus has founded an initiative that will assist you in finding the perfect private accommodation. Vaal Triangle Campus

There are five residence buildings located on this campus, while five more residences are available within the Vanderbijlpark area. The two day houses are for day students who live at home but drive to campus every day. The Horizon Residence offers modern accommodation to approximately 84 post-graduate students and post-doctoral fellows on campus.

For more information on accommodation on the Vaal Triangle Campus, contact Karin Venter on 016 910 3308 or at Venter.Karin@nwu.ac.za. In addition, Tumi Mambo can be reached on 016 910 3051 or 22903798@nwu.ac.za.
